Noses can be kind of strange if you really look at them. They’re necessary (obviously) but in some ways the best nose is the nose that doesn’t get “noticed.” It just fits in with the rest of the face.
Unfortunately, many people have a nose with which they feel uncomfortable, to the extent that a rhinoplasty is among the five most common cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. The word “rhinoplasty” has nothing whatsoever to do with a very large four-legged creature with horns, but is, in fact, derived from the Greek “rhis” (nose) and “plassein” (to shape). Cosmetic nose surgery is also known as a “nose job”.
Whatever you choose to call it, in cosmetic nose surgery a surgeon such as Dr. Alex Rabinovich can sculpt the cartilage and bone of the nose to give you a completely new look and renewed self-confidence.
Patients who are considering this type of surgery often have a nose that is disproportionately large for their face, they may have crooked or asymmetrical noses, pinched or flared nostrils, a protruding bridge – or “Roman nose” – and so on. Cosmetic nose surgery can correct almost any undesirable characteristic.
There Will Be Some Pain
Now there is no avoiding the fact that there will be some pain after rhinoplasty. The face is an extremely sensitive part of the body, but the key to keeping pain to the minimum while achieving the appearance that you have always wanted and having minimum recovery time is to choose the right surgeon for the procedure.
If you think about it, not so many years ago a visit to the dentist was always going to be uncomfortable, if not painful, but that doesn’t happen today. A good dental surgeon will do everything he or she can, in order to keep pain to the minimum, and much the same thing applies to a rhinoplasty even though the procedure is very different from having a filling or a tooth pulled.
Dr. Rabinovich can perform your procedure under general anesthetic or light sedation, and it takes about two hours. When he has carried out the surgery, he will produce a custom designed splint to cover your nose which will help to keep the new shape, and also reduce any swelling.
You will need someone to take you home after the surgery, and Dr. Rabinovich will prescribe routine pain killers and antibiotics for a week. Some people choose to stay at home for a week, but it is quite safe to go outdoors in the sunshine if you wish.
