Rhinoplasty, also commonly called “nose reshaping” or “Nose Job”, is a surgical procedure which is usually performed in order to improve the appearance and/ or the function of the nose. People also often refer to it as ‘cosmetic nose surgery.’ Because Dr. Rabinovich is known as one of the top ‘nose surgeons in San Francisco’ or a ‘top San Francisco Rhinoplasty specialist,’ we perform many nose surgeries. Rhinoplasty can be performed to change the contour of the bridge, sculpt the nasal tip, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and upper lip. It is also commonly done to correct a birth defect, facial injury, or breathing problems. It can be combined with other surgical procedures such as chin reshaping to enhance the aesthetic results.
Dr. Rabinovich is a top San Francisco nose surgeon, and he performs many nose surgeries in our San Francisco offices. The procedure takes approximately two hours and can be performed under a general anesthesia or sedation. When the surgery is complete, a plastic splint is custom designed and placed over the surface of your nose to help maintain its new shape and to diminish swelling. Internal packs may also be placed inside the nostrils to stabilize the septum and minimize bleeding.
The patient returns home after the surgery. Most of our patients are local to San Francisco, but others come from elsewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. You’ll need someone to take you home after your rhinoplasty. Routine antibiotics and pain medications are usually prescribed for one week. Most people choose to remain home for a week, although it is safe to be outdoors. After all, San Francisco is known for an active lifestyle, so many patients go outdoors almost immediately! Although most of the bruising and swelling resolves after 2-3 weeks, minor shifting and settling continues for up to a year.
Non-surgical option
Non-surgical reshaping of the nose refers to a procedure in which fillers are used to alter and shape a person’s nose without invasive surgery. This procedure has been performed since 2003. By filling in depressed areas, lifting the angle of the tip or smoothing the appearance of bumps on the bridge of the nose, a more symmetrical and balanced appearance can be achieved.
Bruising and swelling are minimal and there is essentially no down time because the procedure is not invasive. Duration of results depends on the type of filler used and ranges from 6-18 months, at which point the filler may be re-injected. Whatever type of San Francisco nose surgery that you need, rest assured that you will be getting cared for by one of San Francisco’s top nose surgeons!
